Economic release time
An economic calendar should identify release time, source, jurisdiction and the observation period. Consensus, previous and actual values are different fields. Revisions can change the interpretation of the apparent surprise.
Holiday schedules
Holiday schedules may alter trading, settlement or publication independently. An open market does not imply that every related bank or data source follows its normal schedule. Verify the specific mechanism relevant to the planned activity.
Contract expiry dates
Contract expiry and notice-related dates belong to the actual instrument. A continuous chart can move to a new contract while an account still holds the old one. Record operational dates separately from chart presentation.
Provider maintenance windows
Provider maintenance can interrupt order entry or data delivery. Determine whether existing orders remain active and what official recovery procedure applies. A planned outage should be included in the session plan before positions are opened.
Worked example
A market is open while a related settlement calendar has a holiday. Assuming all dates advance normally can create an incorrect cash-flow expectation even though trading itself continues.
Try it yourself
Create separate calendar fields for trading closure, settlement holiday, economic release and provider maintenance. Explain why one generic holiday flag is insufficient.
Show the worked solution
The four events affect different processes. A single flag cannot explain whether orders can execute, funds settle, information is released or the platform is accessible. Keep the categories separate and cite the applicable schedule.
Apply this to your course project
Build a timezone-correct weekly schedule with holiday and event checks.
Keep the calculation inputs, assumptions and decisions with your work. Practical exercises are self-reviewed; the scored knowledge checks assess the questions shown, not an independent certification of practical competence.
